Spent Youth Records
2021-2023 toolshed is a micro-record label operated by preston taylor. the label was started as spent youth records whilst preston lived in boston, ma. the label was focused on providing free distribution to peers and local artists through a new-defunct distribution company that provided preston with unlimited free releases to streaming platforms.

the original roster released singles and records for snowday, ben hoffman, angrybaby, bundt cakes, undecided, girlmoms, and preston’s own music practice.

spent youth records transitioned into toolshed in 2023, as preston’s focus shifted to using the label as a platform for projects he and longtime collaborator Daniel Nesbit were directly attached to: whether through providing production, artistic direction, or playing in the band themselves.

the name toolshed came from preston’s discovery of the term through Jack Whitten’s studio log and employment of the term from jazz musicians... toolshedding as an offshoot embodies preston and daniel’s collaborations to a T — creating a girlmoms concept album in a one week stint of writing and recording,  writing and recording an entire LP over the course of a 2 week stint in south carolina for undecided...

time constraints and creative conditions offer the opportunity for calculated improvisations and mining the unexpected.
